Dark Stry Tours

Dark Stry’s self-guided tour app is a unique way to explore Western Australia’s most iconic and unknown locations. Voyant Augmented Reality worked with the team at Dark Stry to create a custom augmented reality Instagram filter for a stop on their “WA’s Enterprising Women” route, helping to uncover the hidden story behind some of Perth’s iconic and entrepreneurial women.

The challenge of this project was a limited catalogue of photographs to help tell Mary Raine’s unique and rich story. We storyboarded a simple narrative and using 2D assets optimised for augmented reality within the Spark AR platform, we created a location-based AR filter that showcased Mary Raine her background as a barmaid with a love for singing before becoming a real estate mogul in the early 1900’s. Step back in time with this filter which can be experienced outside the Wentworth Hotel, the jewel of her real estate crown, on the corners of Murray Street and William Street in Perth, Western Australia.

Since deploying this initial AR filter, Voyant AR has collaborated with the team at Dark Stry to create multiple filters including front and back facing camera effects, facial recognition and horizontal plane tracking.
